Da questa primavera si è aggiunto alla lista dei punti commerciali una nuova collaborazione, potrai infatti trovare i capi del progetto Arte da Indossare anche da Mimi Furaha, delizioso negozio in Borgo Albizi, nel centro storico di Firenze. 

Springtime is the right moment to add a new place where to find the pieces of my Wearable Art, the shop is Mimi Furaha , it's absolutely lovely and located in Borgo Albizi, in the city centre of Florence.

Come già sai, il progetto Arte da Indossare consiste nel trasportare le opere pittoriche su altri materiali, come morbidi tessuti o leggera carta, per creare capi d'abbigliamento e accessori da potere indossare e tenere così le opere vicino al corpo. Tutto rigorosamente con materiali di ottima qualità e Made in Italy, come ogni capo presente da Mimi Furaha.

As you might already know, the Wearable Art project consists in printing artworks on other materials, like soft textiles or light paper, and create wearable pieces or accessories ti be worn and keep close to the body. Each one with high quality materials and Made in Italy, just like any item you can find at Mimi Furaha's.

At Mimi Furaha's you will find the scarves, the earrings and the dresses, and you can have fun to match them together or with the beautiful pieces that Raffaella and Michelle pick for their lovely shop.

Come si legge sul loro sito "Mimi Furaha si esprime attraverso il volto di Michelle e Raffaella, giovani donne le cui radici sono legate all'Africa e alle bellissime terre del Sud Italia. Quello che propongono è il risultato di una costante ricerca che garantisca alle clienti originalità e divertimento."

As you can read in the website "Mimi Furaha is the expression of the personality of Michelle and Raffaella, two young women whose roots come from Africa and the South of Italy. Their work is the result of a constant research aiming to offer their clients originality and fun."

Michelle sostiene infatti che "bellezza oggi è sinonimo di conoscenza, accettazione e valorizzazione di se'. Il colore ha infatti, un ruolo fondamentale nella cura della propria immagine." 

Michelle states that "beauty is a synonim for knowlegde, acceptance and self appreciation. And colour plays a fundamental role in creating one's image".

Interessante conoscere l'origine del nome, spiegata da Michelle: "Ho scelto il nome mimi furaha, “sono felice” in lingua kiswaili, come omaggio alla mia terra, l’Africa. Questo Paese dai colori caldi e dai sapori speziati è stata la casa della mia infanzia: là sono le mie radici. Voglio esprimere la passione per questo continente attraverso colori accesi e tessuti vibranti. Mimi furaha nasce, infatti, dal mio amore per le cose semplici, dalla gioia di intraprendere un nuovo percorso, fatto di bellezza e creatività." 

It's interesting to know the origin of the name, explained by Michelle: "I chose the name mimi furaha, meaning "I'm happy" in Kiswaili language, as a homage to Africa, my homeland. "

Mimi Furaha offre ancora di più, "vuole stabilire un connubio tra bellezza e cultura creando così una zona dedicata interamente a eventi artistici, mostre, spettacoli, conferenze, e gruppi di ascolto. La naturale ubicazione del negozio, le permette infatti di esprimersi al meglio nel suo intento, trovandosi collocato all’interno di palazzo degli Alessandri, palazzo storico fiorentino."

Mimi Furaha offers something more, "creating a link between beauty and culture, with a space entirely dedicated to art events, exhibitions and shows, and that comes natural, being located in the Palazzo degli Alessandri, one of the many Florentine historical buildings."

Sono passata questa mattina in negozio, dove sono rimasta a lungo a scattare un po' di foto, attratta dai bei colori e materiali.

I was there this morning and kept on taking pics of the place, attracted by the beautiful colors and materials. 

Davvero l'ispirazione non manca, con tanti abiti e accessori di qualità, dai tagli ben fatti, colori vibranti o delicati, stampe variopinte e morbida maglieria.

Mi piacciono le scelte di Raffaella e Michelle, e abbinare sciarpe e orecchini ai loro abiti e accessori è stato molto divertente... e che bellezza! 

I love the choices of Raffaella and Michelle, and it was so fun matching my scarves and earrings with their clothes and accessories.

Le sciarpe del progetto Arte da indossare sono frutto della stampa delle opere DROPS su tessuto. Realizzate interamente in Italia con filati di qualità misto modal e cachemere, sono già disponibili in sette colori diversi: GOLD - GIALLO, NIGHT - BLU, STONE - GRIGIO, LEAF -VERDE SCURO, FRUIT - BORDEAUX, GRASS - VERDE PRATO, VIOLET, VIOLETTO. La distribuzione del colore a macchie e sfumature permette di giocare con le tonalità e i disegni.

The scarves of the Wearable Art project are made printing a series of artworks called DROPS on textile. They are entirely made in Italy with high quality yarns, a mixture of modal and cachemere, and seven colors are already available: GOLD - YELLOW, NIGHT - BLUE, STONE - GREY, LEAF - DEEP GREEN, FRUIT - BORDEAUX, GRASS - GREEN, VIOLET, VIOLET. The colours are distributed in a gradient, giving the opportunity to play with hues and drawings. 

Gli orecchini BOTANICA, leggeri ed anallergici, sono disponibili in tante, coloratissime versioni. Sono infatti la trasposizione su accessorio delle opere omonime pittoriche dedicate alla Natura. Inoltre il packaging in carta bianca, oltre ad esaltarne le tinte, li rende un regalo ideale perché facile da trasportare e con un apposito spazio da usare come bigliettino d'auguri. 

The BOTANICA earings are light and hypoallergenic, and are available in many, colorful hues. They come from the Botanica series, dedicated to Nature. Since they come with a beautiful, flat white packaging, with an included greeting card, they are a perfect gift or souvenir from Florence.

I miniabiti, anch'essi realizzati interamente in Italia con un tessuto 100% cotone, sono una vera e propria tela da indossare, e sono coordinabili con sciarpe e orecchini.

The minidresses, entirely Made in Italy with a 100% cotton yarn, give the sensation of wearing an artwork, and can be matched with the scarves and earrings.

Insomma, mi piace come il mio lavoro si sposa con questo spazio, e potremmo anche pensare ad ulteriori collaborazioni in futuro.

I love the way my work feels in this place, and we could think of creating an event in the future.

Story of a bag

Everything always starts in my studio, with watercolour paints. Emotions and thoughts, feelings and ideas, memories and desires. Everything is washed. Everything is processed. By hues and shades, colors and shapes. As the act of painting is an act of expression and freedom, a meditation practice. 

Tutto comincia sempre nel mio studio, con gli acquerelli. Emozioni e pensieri, sentimenti e idee, memorie e desideri. Tutto è lavato via. Tutto è trasformato. Da tonalità e sfumature, colori e forme. Perchè l'atto di dipingere è un atto di espressione e libertà, una pratica meditativa.

Painting is a way to set your mind free, through the beauty of colors. This is the reason why I used to post Haiku Paintings, because Haiku poems, with their few words that are able of describing a world, are very much like to a quick brushstroke telling an emotion.

Dipingere è un modo per liberare la mente, trasformando qualcosa che si ha dentro attraverso la bellezza del colore. E' il motivo per cui ho pubblicato spesso Haiku Paintings, perchè le poesie Haiku, con le loro poche parole capaci di descrivere un mondo, sono molto simili ad una veloce pennellata, che sappia raccontare un'emozione.

This is one of the ways people can find to give sense to their lives. Colors and stains, drawings and brushstrokes becoming a tale in a painting. And then the tales becoming a pattern, an experiment, stepping from the paper to a fabric, and then into an object, into something to be kept close to the body.

Ecco un modo per dare un senso alla vita. Colori e macchie, disegni e pennellate che diventano un racconto in un dipinto. E poi le storie diventano una fantasia, un esperimento, passando dalla carta al tessuto, e poi diventando oggetto, qualcosa da tenere vicino al corpo. 

Today a soft and tender faux suede has turned into a purse. Someone's always there to help, and I want to thank my talented friend Sophie for having handsewn this little bag with crafstmanship and love.

Oggi un tessuto finto scamosciato, morbido e tenue è diventato una pochette. C'è sempre qualcuno ad aiutarmi in questi passaggi, in questo caso ringrazio la mia talentuosa amica Sophie, per averla cucito a mano, con maestria e amicizia.

Per chi non avesse fatto in tempo durante l'indaffarato periodo delle feste a fare un salto al negozio temporaneo di Source self-made design, ecco una rapidissima carrellata di immagini che colgono lo stile del luogo.

For those who couldn't find some time to step by during the busy holiday time, here is a gallery with some pics expressing the style of the place.

Il negozio è rimasto aperto per poco più di un mese e presentava il lavoro di una cinquantina di autoproduttori italiani e anche qualche designer straniero. Prodotti originali e unici che difficilmente si trovano nei negozi.

The shop has been open for a month and showcased the work of fifty Italian and international designers. Unique and original products you rarely find in shops. 

Alcune di queste creazioni le avete già viste durante l'evento di settembre, ma molte erano completamente nuove e scelte appositamente per l'occasione. 

Some of these creations have been showcased during the event in september, but many were completely new and were chosen for the shop.

Oggetti per la casa, per la tavola, lampade, gioielli in carta, porcellana o gomma, capi d'abbigliamento, mobili, giochi, borse, accessori, libri. 

Objects for the home, for the table, lamps, paper, porcelain or rubber jewels, pieces of furniture, games, bags, accessories, books.

Tutto realizzato con materiali eccezionali, come marmo di Carrara,  vetro di Murano, cotone e lino, pietra lavica, polvere di marmo, ceramica, legno, gomma, cartone.

Everything made out of gorgeous materials like Italian marble, Venetian glass, cotton and linen, lavic stone, marble powder, ceramics, wood, rubber, cardboard.

Come avevo accennato in un post precedente, in questa occasione ho partecipato sia come staff di Source, che come artista, con il mio progetto Arte da Indossare.

As I already mentioned in a previous post, on this occasion I joined the event both as part of the staff of Source and as an artist, with my Wearable Art project.

E' stato  un piacere essere parte di una compagnia così straordinaria di creativi e se siete curiosi di conoscerli potete trovare molte informazioni sul sito di Source.

Come forse già saprete il progetto Arte da indossare è partito con la stampa di opere in acquerello e inchiostro e illustrazioni digitali su tessuto. Con la stoffa sono state realizzate delle sciarpe in modal e cachemere e miniabiti in cotone che si potevano acquistare in negozio ma che potete trovare online qui. Infine gli Orecchini Botanica sono la ciliegina sulla torta.

As you already might know, the Wearable Art project has kicked off with printing watercolor and ink artworks or digital illustrations on textiles, and the textile have been used to create scarves (modal and cachemere) and minidresses (cotton) that you could buy in the temporary shop but you cal also buy online here. Not to mention the Botanica Earrings, a very appreciated gift!

Durante Source Via Maggio 53/r sono anche stati presentati degli orecchini che però non sono ancora presenti nel mio negozio online. una delle ragioni per cui non ci sono è che sono tutti diversi!

During Source via Maggio 53/r also a series of earrings was on sale, but they are not yet available in the shop. One of the reasons why they are not, is that they are all different from one another!

Cosa reputo importante di questa esperienza? Il segnale, piccolo in quantità ma non in qualità, che l'autoproduzione, accende la curiosità e va incontro ai gusti delle persone. Così i nostri oggetti autoprodotti sono volati in tutto il mondo, acquistati dai tanti turisti che popolano le vie di Firenze. 

What I valued most of this experience? The message that self made design stimulates curiosity and is a good fit for people's tastes. And the fact that our self made object were bought from turists and flew across the world.

Ecco un motivo in più per pensare che la creatività Italiana (e non solo), ha trovato qui una casa, un luogo dove appoggiarsi per poi ripartire più forte di prima.

And this is another reason to think that creativity has found its place in Source.

Per non dire che molte persone ci hanno fatto i complimenti per la qualità dei prodotti e si sono lamentati perché chiudevamo a gennaio! Ha! Questo mi ha fatto piacere.

Not to mention that so many people complimented on us for the quality of the goods and complained because we were bound to close on january! Ha! How I loved this. 

Così immagino che ci dovrà essere una seconda puntata. Che ne dite ragazzi?

Dresses

You already know from my previous posts I'm experimenting with textiles. But I had no time to tell you that my dresses are ready and that I'm really happy with the results. I've been wearing them during the last weeks and it's a great sensation to wear something that you created. It is so personal and unique. They drape well, the cotton is 100% organic and they can be used bare legs or with leggins. These dresses will be made to order. Do contact me here if you are interested. Thanks!

Avevo già raccontato in altri post che sto sperimentando con i tessuti. Ma non ho avuto tempo di dire che i vestiti sono pronti e che sono molto felice dei risultati. Li ho indossati durante le ultime settimane ed è una gran bella sensazione indossare qualcosa che si è creato da soli, così personale e unico. La stoffa è 100% cotone naturale, cade bene e i capi possono essere utilizzati come un abito o con i leggins. Questi abiti saranno fatti su ordinazione. Contattami qui sei interessata. Grazie!

Experimenting with textiles

The sewing

As I told you in a previous post, my summer experiment is textile fun. After years of people telling me things like "Why don't you create textiles with your designs" I finally decided and found some time to give it a try, and with the help of dear friends and b-testers I finally came up with something similar to a double collection and ordered some fabric.

Come vi ho detto in post precedente, il mio esperimento estivo è stato il tessuto. Dopo essermi sentita dire per anni cose come "Ma perchè non crei tessuti con i tuoi disegni?" mi sono finalmente decisa e ho trovato un po' di tempo per provare. Così, con l'aiuto di care amiche e b-testers affezionate, ho creato una specie di doppia collezione e ordinato la stoffa.

When I received my parcel with the textiles, I was so happy and proud I couldn't wait to go to the seamstress and get them done. It is a double collection since my interest has doubled last year: beside my beloved watercolor paintings, I fell in love with digital illustration, a creative field completely new to me but with endless potentialities.

Quando ho ricevuto il pacco con i tessuti, ero così felice e orgogliosa che non vedevo l'ora di portarli a cucire. E' una doppia mini-collezione perchè il mio interesse è raddoppiato l'anno scorso: oltre agli amati acquerelli, mi sono presa una sbandata per l'illustrazione digitale, tecnica completamente nuova per me ma con potenzialità interessanti.

As you might have noticed, during the last months I have posted in this blog some of my illustrations of a project called "The Year of the Goat". It is a sort of illustrated diary of the current year, wich is the year of the goat according to Chinese traditional horoscope. I thought the series of illustrations was perfect for creating a small collection of objects and ordered a dress, a t-shirt, a bag, a purse and two scarves.

Come avrete potuto notare, ho postato alcune illustrazioni in questo blog durante i mesi scorsi di un progetto a cui ho lavorato che si chiama "The Year of the Goat". E' una sorta di diario illustrato dell'anno corrente, l'anno della capra secondo l'oroscopo tradizionale cinese. Ho pensato che la serie di illustrazioni fosse perfetta per creare una piccola collezione di oggetti e così ho ordinato un vestito, una maglietta, una borsa, un borsellino e due sciarpe.

But I could not neglect my first love, and since I had recently created a summer inspired series of watercolor paintings called DROPS, I ordered another amount of textile with these designs.

Ma non potevo trascurare il mio primo amore, e dato che ho appena creato una serie di acquerelli ispirati all'estate chiamati DROPS, ho ordinato del tessuto anche con quelli. 

I will show you soon what came out of the sewing, but I can already tell you that I'm so happy to have found such expert hands to help me. They belong to G. and she's a wonder.

Vi mostrerò presto i risultati, ma posso dire fin da subito che sono felice di aver trovato mani esperte ad aiutarmi. Appartengono a G. e lei è un portento.
